    Itinerary

    Day 1  -  Flight from Denver to Jackson Hole  -  300 mi / 482.7 km  -  1 hour 50 minutes
You'll need to make your own way to Denver International Airport, where the tour starts. Please ensure you get there with plenty of time to spare! There will be a checked luggage fee, which you will need to pay, and you may like to consider just bringing carry on bags.

Amazingly, the Jackson Hole airport is actually inside Grand Teton National Park! Your guide will be waiting for you when you land, and in just a few minutes you'll be enjoying the spectacular scenery!

The highlights of Grand Teton National Park are the majestic mountains towering over a number of lakes, and we will stop frequently to admire the views and take pictures. Jenny Lake is really spectacular, and your tour will detour off the main road to enable you to enjoy the sweeping vistas. Although Grand Teton doesn't have as many animals as Yellowstone, if we come across any, we will pause for photos. The Jackson Lake dam wall will be another stop before we head out of Grand Teton National Park, across the Roosevelt Parkway, and into Yellowstone.

    Day 1  -  Yellowstone!
We'll enter Yellowstone at the south entrance, and take a leisurely drive north, towards the Grand Loop Road. The road follows Lewis Canyon for a while, until we get to Lewis Falls, which is a must see, before making its way past Lewis Lake and Grant Village and reaching West Thumb.

The way we like our tours to run, is that we stop whenever there is something of interest to see, and there is so much of interest! We also hope to get you stuck in one of Yellowstone's legendary buffalo jams - seriously!

West Thumb is an incredibly beautiful geyser basin, right on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, and we will walk the boardwalk system here.

We're now on Yellowstone's lower, or southern, loop, and we'll continue on the Grand Loop Road over the Continental Divide twice, stopping for photographs the second time, where a tiny, but very unique lake is to be found.

    Day 1  -  Old Faithful!
Up next is the highlight of the tour for many people, Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin. We will watch Old Faithful erupt, but there is so much to see here, apart from Old Faithful. Yellowstone National Park has about half of the world's geysers, and somewhere around 150 of these are located in the one square mile area which is the Upper Geyser Basin.

Old Faithful Inn is one of the most beautiful buildings in the national park system, and you have to visit it! You can also buy souvenirs there.

Day 1  -  More and more geyser basins!
The road to West Yellowstone goes past no fewer than four more geyser basins, and time permitting, we'll check out all four. There's also a chance of seeing wildlife here, more so in the spring and fall than in the summers.

First up is Biscuit Basin, followed by Black Sand Basin. Next will be the Midway Geyser Basin, home to one of Yellowstone's most iconic sights, Grand Prismatic Spring. We'll walk the boardwalk here, unless the National Park Service has the area closed off as a result of too much traffic. We'll also stroll the boardwalk at the Lower Geyser Basin.

At Madison Junction we'll turn left, or west, and make our way through the beautiful Madison Valley, to the small town of West Yellowstone.

Day 1  -  Spend the night in West Yellowstone
You will be dropped off at your motel, and will be on your own for dinner, and to explore the town.

Day 2  -  Day two options
The flight back to Denver generally departs in the early afternoon, and assuming that is the case, you have a number of options this morning. The first is to walk around and explore the small town, including paying a visit to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, which is a must see! There is also a short hike you can take from town to the Madison River, but note we suggest you carry bear spray.

The other alternative is to take a separate, second, tour to visit Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Hayden Valley, Norris Geyser Basin and Gibbon Falls. You can order this tour at check out. This will take about 4.5 to five hours, and can be ordered at check out. We'll need to leave at about 6.30 am, and make our way through the Madison Valley, towards Madison Junction, where we will turn left, or north, and continue towards the road between Norris Geyser Basin and Canyon Village, which splits the Grand Loop Road into two huge loops.

At Canyon Village we'll make our way south towards the Hayden Valley, one of two regions in Yellowstone which are known for their wildlife, and see what animals we can find.

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is a majestic canyon, carved by the Yellowstone River, as it plunges through the canyon walls far below, and it is located just to the north of the Hayden Valley. The first stop will be Artist Point, which in our opinion, provides the best views of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We'll then go to the other side of the Grand Canyon and walk down to the brink of the Upper Falls, where you can look down on the waterfall from a few yards above. There will be at least two more stops at the Canyon, namely Lookout Point, from where you can see the Lower Yellowstone Falls, and Grand View Point.

We'll then go to Norris Geyser Basin, which actually comprises two geyser basins, Porcelain Basin and Back Basin. We'll be at Porcelain Basin a little longer, although Back Basin is home to the world's highest geyser, Steamboat Geyser. There is almost no chance of you catching Steamboat erupting, but there is always steam coming out of it.

On the way back to West Yellowstone we will stop off at Gibbon Falls.

Incidentally, while the flight from Denver to Jackson was non stop, the flight from Yellowstone back to Denver will have a layover in Salt Lake City, unless you are traveling on a weekend day during the summer. If that is the case, you have the option of taking a mid morning flight, but won't have won't have the opportunity today to take the separate Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone tour or explore town if you do catch the earlier flight.

You will catch a flight from the local Yellowstone airport back to Denver. Most weekends there will be an opportunity of taking a nonstop flight, but during the weekdays there will be a layover in Salt Lake City.

Departure times vary, but the nonstop flight generally takes off mid morning, while the one stop route departs in the early afternoon. If you choose the weekend nonstop option, you will miss the opportunity of doing the add on tour, going to Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Hayden Valley and Norris Geyser Basin.

The tour ends at the Denver airport. Thanks for joining us!
